The 100 mph electric scooter: hyper scooters that get there, and what they demand

The fastest hyper scooters list about 100 mph. Here is which ones, the tier just below them, and what owning that much speed really involves.

The short answer

A 100 mph electric scooter sits at the very top of the hyper scooter class. In our catalog, the WEPED Sonic Dual, the Sonic S Dual and the seated Sonic S Expander list a top speed of about 100 mph. They are built to order in Korea, run on 84V or 100.8V batteries and weigh 331 to 397 lb. Below them, a 70 to 87 mph tier includes more WEPED models, the NANROBOT LS7+ and the Hooga Daytona. This is private land and closed course speed, and it calls for motorcycle grade gear.

  • WEPED lists about 100 mph for the Sonic Dual, Sonic S Dual and Sonic S Expander, all built to order and all over 300 lb.
  • The next tier runs from 70 to 87 mph: more WEPED models, the NANROBOT LS7+ and the Hooga Daytona.
  • Hyper scooter is a rider term, not a legal one: two motors, 60V to 100.8V batteries and roughly 60 mph and up.
  • In many places these scooters are legal only on private land. Several ship speed limited, and the local limit applies to you.

Which electric scooters reach 100 mph

Only the biggest WEPED scooters list a top speed of about 100 mph. WEPED builds them to order in Korea on frames CNC machined from POSCO 6061 aluminum, with Samsung SDI 21700 cells, oil shocks front and rear and 20-inch tubeless tires.

  • WEPED Sonic Dual: two 8,000 W hub motors, an 84V 100Ah battery (8,400 Wh), Brembo brakes front and rear and a 280 lbs max load. It weighs 331 lb.
  • WEPED Sonic S Dual: two 6,000 W hub motors on a 100.8V 100Ah battery (10,080 Wh), hydraulic brakes and a 300 lbs max load, at 375 lb. WEPED lists about 174 miles of range.
  • WEPED Sonic S Expander: the seated version, with two 8,000 W hub motors, the same 100.8V battery, a rear carrier and a 29.8 in seat height. It weighs 397 lb.

WEPED also lists a safe-speed limit of about 87 mph for the Sonic Dual and the Sonic S Dual. All three sit above $15,000, and being built to order, they take longer to arrive.

The next tier: 70 to 87 mph

Below the 100 mph WEPED models, a wider group lists 70 to 87 mph. That is still far beyond any road limit.

  • WEPED Sonic Expander: about 87 mph. A seated model with two 6,000 W hub motors on an 84V 100Ah battery, at 353 lb.
  • WEPED Sonic X: about 80 mph. Two 4,000 W hub motors, an 84V 4,200 Wh battery, hydraulic 4-piston brakes and 13-inch tubeless tires, at 175 lb. The WEPED Dark Sonic X is the same platform in black on 16-inch tubeless tires.
  • NANROBOT LS7+ 72V: 74.5 mph. Two 3,000 W motors, a 72V 35Ah Samsung battery, adjustable KKE hydraulic suspension, four-piston NUTT hydraulic brakes and a steering damper, at 119.1 lb.
  • Hooga Daytona 72V: 72 mph. Up to 10 kW through dual 72V 60A controllers, a 72V 40Ah LG battery and 4-piston hydraulic brakes, at 152 lb.

The WEPED Dark Knight Cyber Fold is a folding off-road model on 16-inch tires that ships without a charger, so you add one in the build sheet. The WEPED FF2S is the light one of the group at 101 lb, with a 4-way fold. For every model from 40 mph up, see the fastest electric scooter models or browse all our fast electric scooters.

What makes a hyper scooter

Hyper scooter is a rider term, not a legal category. It covers the electric scooters at the very top of the power scale, a step above performance models, and most share the same recipe:

  • Two motors, one in each wheel, for traction and hard acceleration.
  • A high voltage, high capacity battery, usually 72V, with a few at 60V and the WEPED flagships at 84V or 100.8V. The King GTR carries 2,419 Wh, the Kaabo Wolf King GTR Max 2,845 Wh and the WEPED Sonic S Dual 10,080 Wh.
  • Several kilowatts of peak power. The Kaabo King GTR lists two 2,000 W motors and 13,440 W peak, and the Teverun Fighter Supreme Ultra 2.0 lists 9,200 W peak.
  • Top speeds of roughly 60 mph and up. That is where this guide draws the line.

Two figures need care. Range is measured at low speed: Teverun rates the Fighter Supreme Ultra 2.0 at up to 124 miles at 15 mph, and ridden hard any hyper scooter covers far less. Peak power is a short burst, so compare peak with peak and rated with rated.

Hyper scooters from 60 to 69 mph

Most hyper scooters live here, on 72V batteries with two motors. They weigh 115 to 148 lb, well under half the weight of the 100 mph class, and most of them fold.

If you want a seat, the built to order WEPED miniGO PRO MAX lists about 68 mph on a 60V battery, with 14-inch off-road tires and hydraulic brakes and shocks at both ends.

Living with one: weight, charging and upkeep

  • Weight. The Teverun Fighter Supreme Ultra 2.0 weighs 137 lb, the Hooga Daytona 152 lb and the WEPED Sonic Dual 331 lb. Folded, the NANROBOT LS7+ still measures 56.3 x 27.6 x 22.4 inches. Plan on ground level storage.
  • Charging. NANROBOT quotes 8 to 12 hours for the LS7+, and Hooga about 10 hours for the Daytona, or 5 hours with two chargers.
  • Upkeep. Tires and brake pads wear fast at these speeds. Check them, and the bolts, before every ride.

Charge on a hard surface away from exits, with someone at home, and only with the chargers made for the scooter.

Safety: what the speed demands

At 70 mph and up, a fall is a motorcycle crash. The brakes, suspension and steering have to match the speed, and so does the rider.

  • Strong brakes on both wheels. The WEPED Sonic Dual uses Brembo brakes, and the Kaabo King GTR pairs hydraulic brakes on 6.3 in discs with ABS.
  • Suspension that adjusts. Teverun fits KKE adjustable hydraulic suspension to the Fighter Supreme Ultra 2.0, and Teewing lists adjustable Telelever-style suspension on the Teewing Mars XT 8000W.
  • A steering damper to calm speed wobble. The NANROBOT LS7+ includes one.
  • A slow start. Learn the scooter in its lowest mode in an empty lot, and raise the power only when braking and turning feel automatic.

Wear motorcycle gear on every ride: a full face helmet, an armored jacket, gloves, long pants with knee protection and boots. Our electric scooter safety gear guide covers what to look for.

In many places, no. Many states and cities limit electric scooters to 15 to 20 mph, or define them by a top speed and weight that these models far exceed. Depending on where you live, a hyper scooter may be legal only on private property with the owner’s permission, or on a closed course.

Several makers ship them tamed. Kaabo lists a 15 mph limited mode on the King GTR and the Wolf King GTR Max, and Teverun ships the Fighter Supreme Ultra 2.0 limited to 15.5 mph. Whatever the scooter can do, the local limit applies to you.

This is general information, not legal advice. Read electric scooter laws: what to check before you ride, then check your state motor vehicle agency and your city website.

Before you buy

  • Real experience on a slower scooter first.
  • A legal place to ride at speed, such as private land or a closed course.
  • Ground level storage, and a way to move a machine of 100 lb or more.
  • Room in the budget for a full face helmet, armored gear and cover against theft and damage. Our electric scooter insurance guide explains the options.

Every scooter in this guide sits above $2,000, so the way to spread the cost is a monthly plan at checkout. Monthly plans are subject to approval and can carry interest. Orders ship free to the lower 48 states. Browse the full electric scooter shop or compare makers on our brands page.

Questions riders ask

What electric scooter goes 100 mph?

In our catalog, the WEPED Sonic Dual, Sonic S Dual and Sonic S Expander list a top speed of about 100 mph. They are built to order in Korea, weigh 331 to 397 lb and are meant for experienced riders on private land or a closed course.

Are 100 mph electric scooters street legal?

In many places, no. Their speed and weight put them outside the legal definition of an electric scooter in many states, so they may be legal only on private property. Check your state and city rules before you buy.

Is a hyper scooter good for a beginner?

No. Build up on a slower model first, then learn a hyper scooter in its lowest mode in an empty lot, in full gear.

What is the difference between a hyper scooter and a performance scooter?

Performance models usually top out somewhere between 40 and 59 mph. Hyper scooters sit above them, mostly on 72V or higher batteries with two motors, at roughly 60 mph and up. The line is informal.
