Speed tiers: 40–49, 50–59 and 60+ mph

The 40–49 mph tier is where performance starts: dual motors, 60V batteries and enough acceleration to keep pace with city traffic, on an electric scooter that is still light enough to fold and carry occasionally. The 50–59 mph tier moves to 72V systems with bigger batteries, larger tires and more weight. The 60+ mph tier is the top of the range: high-output dual motors, large 72V packs and hydraulic brakes, at weights that make these garage-kept machines rather than carry-ups.

What makes an electric scooter fast

Speed comes from voltage, motor output and the controller that links them. A 72V battery pushes more power through the same motor than a 60V pack. Two motors double the drive and keep acceleration strong up hills. Larger controllers deliver more current, and larger batteries keep the power up for longer. The maker’s top speed on each product page is measured on flat ground in the highest mode; expect less up hills and with a heavier rider.

Brakes, tires and steering at speed

Hydraulic disc brakes stop harder and fade less than mechanical discs; most electric scooters here have them, and the spec rows say which. Wider air-filled tires grip better than narrow or solid tires and soak up bumps that would unsettle you at speed. Steering dampers, fitted to many 50+ mph models, resist the wobble that a bump can start at high speed.

Safety gear for fast electric scooters

Wear a full-face helmet, gloves, and ideally a jacket and knee protection. See helmets and protective gear.

Where you can ride fast

Rules on electric scooter speed and where you can ride differ by state and city, and many places cap legal speed well below what these models can do. Check local rules; many riders use the higher modes on private land or closed tracks.

Comparing top speed and range

Sort the grid by top speed or range. Each product page shows the maker’s rated top speed, range and rider weight in the same spec rows, so two models can be compared side by side.

Questions

Asked and answered

What is the fastest electric scooter you sell?

The fastest models here are rated by their makers for 60 mph and up. Sort this page by top speed to see the current leader.

Are 80 and 100 mph electric scooter claims real?

A few makers rate flagship models above 60 mph under ideal conditions, but those figures assume a light rider, flat ground and a fully charged battery. We publish the maker’s rating and nothing higher.

60V or 72V: which is faster?

All else equal, 72V. Higher voltage delivers more power to the motors, so 72V electric scooters generally accelerate harder and reach higher top speeds than 60V models.

Do fast electric scooters need hydraulic brakes?

At 40 mph and up they are strongly recommended. Hydraulic discs stop harder with less lever effort and resist fade on repeated hard stops. Check the brakes row on each product page.

Is a 60 mph electric scooter street legal?

Rules vary by state and city, and most public roads cap electric scooter speeds well below 60 mph. Check your local rules before you ride; many riders reserve top speed for private land.
