How much does an electric scooter cost? 2026 price guide

Prices run from light commuters under $500 to hyper scooters past $5,000. Here is what each band buys, what pushes the price up and what you spend after checkout.

The short answer

How much does an electric scooter cost? Light folding commuters sell for under $500, and most daily commuters find the right mix of speed, range and comfort between $500 and $1,000. From $1,000 to $2,000 you get dual motors, hydraulic brakes and long range. From $2,000 to $5,000 come high performance models for experienced riders, and above $5,000, hyper scooters. The battery is the biggest part of the price, so more money mostly buys more range, more power and a sturdier build.

  • Under $500 buys a light folding commuter for short, flat trips.
  • The band from $500 to $1,000 is where most daily commuters find the right balance.
  • Battery size drives the price more than anything else, followed by motors, brakes and suspension.
  • Plan for a helmet, a lock and wear parts. Charging costs only cents.

Under $500: light commuters

Built for short, flat trips and easy carrying. Almost every model at this level folds. Prices change with sales and options, so check the product page for the current figure; the models in this guide sat in each band when we wrote it.

  • Speed and range: most top out around 18 to 20 mph, with advertised ranges of roughly 15 to 30 miles.
  • Motor: one motor, mostly rated around 350 to 500 watts. Fine on flat ground, slower up hills.
  • Brakes and tires: usually a drum or disc brake plus electronic braking, on 8.5 to 10 inch tires.

The Hiboy S2 has 8.5-inch honeycomb tires that never go flat and rear suspension. The Hiboy S2 Pro steps up to a 500W motor and a 36V 11.6Ah battery, and lists UL 2272 certification. The Segway E2 Pro adds traction control and Apple Find My, the NAVEE GT3 Max carries a 596.7Wh battery, and the Phantom A10 has a 400W rear hub motor and 10-inch tires.

Best for a flat trip of a few miles. Many models here carry riders up to 220 to 265 pounds, so check the maximum load. See all electric scooters under $500.

$500 to $1,000: fast commuters and seated models

Where most daily commuters should look. Bigger batteries, stronger motors and suspension at both ends, while most models still fold.

  • Speed and range: typically about 24 to 34 mph, with advertised ranges of roughly 25 to 45 miles.
  • Motor: single motors of about 500 to 1,000 watts, plus the first dual motor models.
  • Build: disc brakes front and rear on most models, and a weight of about 45 to 70 pounds.

The KUKIRIN line shows how fast the numbers climb: the KUKIRIN G2 has an 800W motor, the KUKIRIN G2 Max a 1000W motor, off-road tires and a removable seat, and the KUKIRIN G4 a 2000W motor on a 60V battery. The JOYOR T10 brings two motors and hydraulic brakes. If standing is hard, the Gyroor C1S is a seated model with a lift-out basket.

$1,000 to $2,000: dual motors and performance

Dual motors, hydraulic brakes and long range become the norm. These models climb steep hills and cover long distances, and they weigh more.

  • Speed and range: typically 30 to 45 mph, with advertised ranges of roughly 40 to 60 miles.
  • Motor: mostly dual motors, on 48V to 72V systems.
  • Build: hydraulic brakes on most models, suspension at both ends, and a weight of about 70 to 100 pounds.

The Ausom DT2 Pro has dual 1100W motors, a 1216.8Wh battery and a 15 mph preset for busy streets. The YUME Raptor2 pushes to 6,000 W of peak power with hydraulic suspension, at 102 lb. Not every model chases speed: the Bugatti 10 is a single motor commuter with self-sealing tubeless tires and rear suspension.

$2,000 to $5,000: high performance

For experienced riders who want serious power, range and build quality.

  • Speed and range: typically 50 to 65 mph, with advertised ranges of 55 to 90 miles and some models past 120 miles.
  • Build: dual motors on 60V or 72V systems, hydraulic brakes, adjustable suspension on many models, and frames that mostly weigh over 100 pounds.

The Segway GT3 Pro carries a 2160Wh battery and S-ABS hydraulic disc brakes. The Kaabo Wolf King GTR Max steps up to a 2,845 Wh Samsung battery and four-piston hydraulic brakes, at 148 lb. The NAMI Burn-E pairs two 1000W motors with a 72V 30Ah battery and adjustable KKE hydraulic suspension, and NAMI rates it for up to 68 miles.

$5,000 and up: hyper scooters

At the top, the price buys huge batteries, machined frames and motorcycle-class brakes. The WEPED Sonic X is made in Korea and built to order, with a 4,200 Wh battery of Samsung SDI cells and hydraulic 4-piston brakes. The WEPED Sonic Dual doubles the battery to 8,400 Wh and adds Brembo brakes, at 331 lb.

These suit experienced riders with private land or a closed course and full protective gear. Because WEPED builds each one to order, they take longer to ship. Our guide to hyper scooters explains who they suit.

What drives the price

The battery is the most expensive part of an electric scooter, and the biggest reason prices rise from band to band. Multiply volts by amp hours to get watt hours (Wh): the Hiboy S2 holds about 270Wh, the Ausom DT2 Pro 1216.8Wh and the WEPED Sonic Dual 8,400 Wh.

  • Motors: one motor of a few hundred watts at the low end, two motors of several thousand watts on 60V and higher systems at the top.
  • Brakes: from a drum or disc brake on light commuters to hydraulic discs, then four-piston or Brembo calipers.
  • Suspension and build: from simple springs to adjustable hydraulic suspension, plus stronger stems and wider tubeless tires. Apps and GPS appear at many prices and do not signal quality on their own.

Costs after you buy

  • Charging: at an example rate of 20 cents per kWh, a full charge costs about 6 cents for a small commuter and well under a dollar for a big model. Our charging time and cost guide shows how to work out your own figure.
  • Wear parts: tires and brake pads, which faster and heavier models go through sooner.
  • A helmet and a lock: both in our accessories shop.

How to pick your price band

Start with the trip, then find the lowest band that covers it. Look for an advertised range of about double your longest regular round trip, a maximum load at least 20% above your weight, and more power for steep hills. Questions riders ask

Is a $300 electric scooter worth it?

For a short, flat trip and a lighter rider, yes. Expect one motor, a top speed of about 15 to 20 mph and simple brakes. For long trips, hills or heavier riders, the $500 to $1,000 band is usually the better buy.

What is a good electric scooter for under $1,000?

Look in the $500 to $1,000 band and match the range and maximum load to your trip and weight. Good examples include the KUKIRIN G2 and G2 Max, the dual motor JOYOR T10 and, if you prefer to sit, the Gyroor C1S. Browse all electric scooters under $1,000.

Why are some electric scooters $5,000 or more?

Battery size, motor power and build. The WEPED Sonic Dual, for example, carries an 8,400 Wh battery of Samsung SDI cells, dual hub motors, Brembo brakes and a CNC machined aluminum frame, and it is built to order in Korea.

Can I pay for an electric scooter over time?

Yes. Orders up to $2,000 can use Pay in 4 at 0% APR. Monthly plans with Affirm are subject to approval. See financing for details.
