Electric scooter with seat: who it suits and how to choose one

A seat turns an electric scooter into something you can ride for longer without tired legs. It also adds weight and changes how the ride feels. Here is how to choose.

Published Oct 9, 20268 min read

The short answer

An electric scooter with seat suits riders who find standing tiring, ride more than a few miles at a time, or run errands with a basket. Models with the seat included are built around it, with larger wheels, baskets and a listed seat height. Seat optional models are regular stand-up scooters that take a seat kit from the same maker. Expect more weight and a bulkier fold, and check the rider height range and maximum load before you buy.

  • Seat included models are designed for sitting: bigger wheels, baskets and a set seat height range.
  • Seat optional models are stand-up scooters that take a maker seat kit when you want one.
  • Seat included models in our catalog weigh from 43 pounds to just over 80 pounds, so plan where yours will live.
  • On a seated model, rider height, seat height and maximum load matter more than top speed.

Who a seated electric scooter suits

A seat turns a short hop into a ride you can sit through from start to finish. It suits a few kinds of rider especially well:

  • Riders who find standing tiring. Standing for 20 or 30 minutes works your legs, back and feet. Sitting lets you relax on longer rides.
  • Errand runners. Most seat included models carry a basket, so groceries and a bag ride with you instead of on your back.
  • Longer, steady trips. On a smooth route at a moderate pace, a seat makes a 5 or 10 mile ride much more comfortable.
  • Riders who simply prefer to sit. Many people feel more relaxed seated, especially when stopping and starting in traffic.

A seat helps less if you carry the electric scooter up stairs or onto a train every day, or if your roads are rough. Standing with soft knees lets your legs soak up bumps. Seated, more of each bump reaches your back, so tire size and suspension matter more.

Seat included or seat optional

There are two ways to get a seat, and they lead to quite different rides.

  • Seat included. The frame is designed around the seat. The Gyroor C1 Pro lists a seat height of 25.6 to 29.5 inches and carries front and rear baskets, and the Hiboy U2 has an extra-thick padded seat with a built-in rear basket. Most are built for relaxed riding on paved roads, though the KUKIRIN G2 Max pairs its removable seat with knobby off-road tires.
  • Seat optional. A regular stand-up electric scooter that takes a seat kit from its maker. The Hiboy seat saddle fits the S2, S2 Pro, S2 SE, S2 Nova, KS4, KS4 Pro and MAX Pro, on a retractable aluminum post that adjusts from 20.9 to 30.7 inches. The KUKIRIN seat kit comes in one version for the G2 Max and G2 Master and another for the G4 and G2. The Segway seat kit fits the E3 Pro, F3 and ZT3 Pro, adds a 10L storage box and weighs 9.5 pounds.

Seat optional suits riders who mostly stand but want to sit on longer trips. You keep a lighter stand-up model and add the seat when you need it. Several Hiboy models also offer a With Seat version right on the product page.

Use the seat made for your model. A seat kit loads the deck and stem in a specific way. Fit only a kit that the maker lists for your electric scooter, and stay inside its weight limit. The Segway kit, for example, is rated for up to 265 pounds.

Comfort: wheels, suspension and seat height

When you sit, all of your weight goes through the seat post. Bigger tires and suspension decide how comfortable that feels.

  • Tire size. The Gyroor C1, C1 Pro and C1S roll on 12-inch air-filled tires, and the Gyroor C1 Plus on 14-inch tires. The Hiboy Q2 and U2 use 14-inch air-filled tires, and the Hiboy U2 Pro has 16 x 4-inch fat tires.
  • Suspension. The Hiboy Q2 and U2 have front and rear suspension, the U2 Pro and C1 Plus have rear suspension, and the C1 Pro has dual rear shock absorbers. The Gyroor C1S has no suspension, so its air tires do all the work.
  • Seat padding. Hiboy lists a 3.5-inch memory foam seat on the U2 Pro.
  • Rider height. The Gyroor C1 fits riders from 4 ft 9 in to 6 ft. The C1S fits 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 1 in, and the C1 Plus 5 ft 1 in to 6 ft 5 in.

Then check the maximum load, which covers you and everything in the basket. The Gyroor C1, C1 Pro and C1S carry up to 265 pounds, the C1 Plus up to 300 pounds, and the Hiboy Q2 and U2 up to 220 pounds. Age guidance differs too: Gyroor lists 12 and up for the C1 family, and Hiboy recommends its seated models for ages 16 to 60. Heavier riders should read electric scooters for heavy adults.

Weight and carrying

A seat, a basket and bigger wheels all add weight. Here is what the makers list:

  • Gyroor C1: 43 lb. Gyroor C1S: 48.5 lb. Gyroor C1 Plus: 63 lb.
  • Hiboy Q2 and Hiboy U2: 61.5 lbs each. Hiboy U2 Pro: 80.69 lbs.
  • KUKIRIN G2 Max: 68 lb with the seat fitted.

For comparison, the stand-up Hiboy S2 Pro weighs 37.4 lbs before you add a seat. If you live in a walk-up or need to lift the electric scooter into a car, a lighter seat included model, or a light stand-up model with a seat kit, makes life easier. Folding and storage

Check the folded size, not just the weight. Most seated models fold at the stem, but the seat and baskets still take up room.

  • The Gyroor C1 lists a folded size of 43.7 x 9.8 x 21 inches. The C1S has a folding handlebar, and the C1 Pro, C1 Plus and C5 trike fold too.
  • The KUKIRIN G2 Max folds to 49.6 x 23.8 x 22.8 inches.
  • Where a product page lists no folded size, plan to store it at full length.

Storage on board matters as well. The C1 Plus has a lift-out middle basket with a side door, 20.7 x 10.5 x 10.2 inches, plus a rear basket. The C1S has a lift-out middle basket and a small rear basket, and the U2 Pro has a removable rear basket. Keep heavy loads low, and keep the total inside the maximum load.

Three wheels for extra steadiness

If balancing at low speed worries you, look at three wheels. The Gyroor C5 electric trike has a padded seat with a backrest, a height-adjustable handlebar and detachable front and rear baskets, and it carries riders up to 300 lb. The Teewing T3 has three wheels for stability, front and rear suspension and a 330 lbs maximum load, and it folds for storage. Both take more floor space than a two-wheel model, so measure before you order.

Electric scooters with a seat included

These models come with the seat in the box. Check each product page for seat height, rider height and folded size.

Maker figures, checked September 2026. Real range and speed depend on rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding mode.

Many more models take a seat kit, including the Hiboy S2 MAX with its own S2 MAX seat saddle and the KUKIRIN G2. Browse the electric scooter shop to see every model, or compare KUKIRIN models in KUKIRIN G2 vs G4 vs G2 Max.

Check your local rules

Local definitions of an electric scooter vary. Some mention a seat, a top speed or a weight limit, so a seated model can fall into a different category in some places. Check your state and city rules before you ride. Our guide to electric scooter laws lists the questions to ask.

A short checklist before you buy

  • Seat included for daily seated riding, or seat optional if you mostly stand.
  • A rider height range and seat height that fit you.
  • A maximum load that covers you plus your cargo.
  • Larger tires or suspension if your roads are rough.
  • A weight and folded size that suit your stairs, trunk or hallway.

Questions riders ask

Can I add a seat to any electric scooter?

No. Only fit a seat kit that the maker lists for your model, such as the Hiboy seat saddle for the S2 family or the KUKIRIN seat kit for the G2 and G4. A universal seat may not suit the deck or the weight limit.

Is an electric scooter with a seat good for older riders?

Many riders who find standing tiring prefer a seat, and three-wheel models add steadiness at low speed. Check the rider height range, the seat height and the maker age guidance, and start in the lowest speed mode.

Does a seat reduce range?

A seat adds a few pounds, and seat included models weigh more overall, but rider weight, speed, hills and temperature affect range far more. See how far an electric scooter really goes.

Can I take the seat off?

On some models, yes. The KUKIRIN G2 Max has a removable seat, and seat kits are add-ons fitted to a stand-up model. Check the manual for how your seat is fitted and removed.

Do seated electric scooters fold?

Many do. The Gyroor C1 lists a folded size of 43.7 x 9.8 x 21 inches, and the KUKIRIN G2 Max folds too. Check the folded size on each product page before you count on it fitting a trunk.
