Electric scooter gift guide for the 2026 holidays: kids, teens, commuters and thrill seekers

The right gift starts with the rider, not the spec sheet. Here are picks for four kinds of people, how to size a scooter without spoiling the surprise, and the gear that should come with it.

Published Oct 8, 20268 min read

The short answer

A good electric scooter gift matches the rider’s age, height, weight and trip. For kids, choose a kids model with low speed modes and a limit a parent controls. For teens, a light model of about 15 to 20 mph, inside the maker age range. For commuters, real range and a weight they can carry. For thrill seekers, power with strong brakes, for experienced adults only. Add a helmet that fits and a good lock. Orders placed by 2 PM ET ship in 1-2 business days, free to the lower 48 states, so order early in the season.

  • Buy for the rider: age, height, weight and where they will ride come before speed.
  • Our picks are grouped into budget bands: under $500, $500 to $1,000, $1,000 to $2,500, and $2,500 and up.
  • A helmet in the right size is the one add-on every scooter gift needs.
  • Orders placed by 2 PM ET ship in 1-2 business days. Carrier transit comes on top, so order early.

Start with the rider

Four quick questions narrow the field before you look at a single model.

  • How old are they? Kids models list an age range, and many adult models list a minimum age of 16.
  • How tall and how heavy? Check the rider height range where the maker gives one, and choose a maximum load about 20% above their weight with a backpack.
  • Where will they ride? Trips to school, a daily commute or open private land. Local rules on speed, age and helmets differ, so check your state and city.
  • Who carries it? A scooter that lives up a flight of stairs should weigh what its rider can lift.

Each pick below sits in one of four budget bands, so you can match a gift to a budget.

For kids: low speeds and a parent in charge

For a child below the age range of adult scooters, a kids model is the right gift. All of these sit in the under $500 band.

  • NAVEE K100: ages 6 to 10, 9.9 mph and a 110 lbs maximum load. Its app sets a speed limit, controls the lights and locks the scooter.
  • NAVEE K100 Pro: ages 6 to 14, rider heights from 3 ft 9 in to 5 ft 7 in, a handlebar with 3 heights, and it folds, so it grows with the child.
  • NAVEE K100 Max: ages 6 to 14, 12.4 mph, a 132 lbs maximum load, Apple Find My and a Bluetooth speaker.
  • Hiboy Q2 Lite and Hiboy Joy Haul: ages 5 to 8 and 9 mph, with a headlight, deck lights and a rear brake light.
  • NANROBOT K1 and NANROBOT K2: speed modes of 5 and 8 mph on the K1, and 5, 8 and 10 mph on the K2, so a parent can start low.

Maker figures, checked September 2026. Real range and speed depend on rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding mode.

Ages, weight limits and supervision are covered in kids electric scooters and rides. For a child who wants dirt, the Hiboy DK2 kids dirt bike is made for ages 3 to 7 and has three speed levels of 13, 8 and 5 mph.

For teens: light, 15 to 20 mph and within the rules

A teen gift should be light enough to carry and slow enough to learn on. Our guide to choosing an electric scooter for teens covers speed, brakes and age rules in depth. Three gifts that fit:

  • Under $500: the Hiboy S2 Lite is made for riders 12 and up, with a 13 mph top speed, a weight of 21.8 lbs, a 180 lbs maximum load and rider heights from 3 ft 7 in to 5 ft 7 in. For older teens, the NAVEE V25 tops out at 15.5 mph and has an auto-sensing headlight, the NAVEE app and UL 2272 certification in its specs.
  • $500 to $1,000: the Segway E2 Pro reaches about 18.6 mph and adds traction control, front and rear turn signals and Apple Find My, at 41.4 lb.

Check the maker age range before you wrap it. Hiboy lists 16 to 60 for most of its S2 models, and Segway lists 16+ for the Segway F3. Your state and city may set their own minimum age and helmet rules.

For commuters: range they can trust, weight they can carry

For someone who will ride to work, range and carrying weight beat top speed.

  • Under $500: the NAVEE G5 Max is rated for up to 43.5 miles at 9.3 mph, with turn signals on the handlebar, traction control and Apple Find My, at 49.8 lbs.
  • $500 to $1,000: the E-TWOW GT SL weighs 29.3 lbs and folds in three places, for stairs and trains. The INMOTION S1F is rated for up to 59 miles and a 308 lbs maximum load. The Segway F3 is rated for up to 44 miles in ECO mode and IPX6, at 42.3 lbs.
  • $1,000 to $2,500: the Segway Max G3 Plus is rated for up to 56 miles in ECO and has a built-in 209W fast charger.

For thrill seekers: experienced adults only

A fast scooter is a gift for an experienced adult rider, not a first scooter. The picks below weigh from 81.5 to 148 lb, and at these speeds the brakes, tires and gear matter as much as the motor.

  • $500 to $1,000: the KUKIRIN G4 has speed gears of 12, 24 and 43 mph, 11-inch tubeless tires and front and rear disc brakes, at 81.5 lb.
  • $1,000 to $2,500: the YUME Raptor2 reaches 54 mph on two motors, with hydraulic brakes and a stopping distance of 5 ft from 15 mph by YUME’s figure, at 102 lb. The NAVEE UT5 Ultra X reaches 43 mph with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and a steering damper, at 90.4 lbs.
  • $2,500 and up: the Kaabo Wolf King GTR Max lists 65 mph, 4-piston hydraulic brakes and a 15 mph limited mode, at 148 lb.

Check the rules where they will ride. Many places limit the speed and weight of electric scooters. New York State, for example, defines an electric scooter as under 100 lb with a top speed of 20 mph or less, so models like these fall outside that definition. Some are best kept to private land.

Sizing it without spoiling the surprise

  • Height: compare their height with the rider height range on the product page. A handlebar with several heights, like the three on the NANROBOT K1, buys growing room.
  • Weight: read the maximum load and leave about 20% for a backpack and a growth spurt.
  • Head size: helmets are sold by head circumference, so measure an old helmet or hat, or ask a parent.

Safety gear to add to the gift

A helmet that fits is the one add-on every scooter gift needs. Our safety gear guide explains how to match a helmet to speed. From our accessories:

Several picks here have app features a parent or rider can use, from speed limits to tracking. Our guide to electric scooter apps and smart features explains them.

Shipping, returns and paying

  • Free shipping to the lower 48 states on every order.
  • Orders placed by 2 PM ET ship in 1-2 business days. Carrier transit time comes on top, and the holiday season is busy, so order early rather than in the last week. WEPED models are built to order and take longer.
  • Returns: you have 14 days to return or exchange. Read our returns and exchanges policy and shipping policy before you wrap it.
  • Paying: split the cost with Pay in 4 at 0% APR or monthly payments with Affirm. Only Pay in 4 is interest free.
  • Before the big day: charge it fully and check the tire pressure and brakes, so the rider gets a scooter that is ready to go.

Questions riders ask

A kids model sized for their age. The NAVEE K100 Pro lists ages 6 to 14 and rider heights from 3 ft 9 in to 5 ft 7 in, and the NAVEE K100 lists ages 6 to 10 with an app speed limit. Add a kids helmet in the right size.
