Every electric scooter on this page is made by its maker for children, with a top speed of 12.4 mph or less and the maker’s own age range on the product page. Choices run from the Hiboy ES1, a 5 mph first ride, through the sit-or-stand Hiboy Q2 Lite and Joy Haul, to the NAVEE K100, K100 Pro and K100 Max for riders from age 6.
From 5 mph up to 9 mph.
Ranges from 5 to 6 miles on a single charge.

Start with the maker’s age range, then check fit. On a stand-up kids scooter the handlebar should sit around your child’s waist with elbows slightly bent. The NAVEE K100 Pro and K100 Max have a 3-height handlebar for ages 6 to 14, so they grow with the child. The Hiboy Joy Haul and Q2 Lite are sit-or-stand rides for ages 5 to 8, a gentle start for younger riders.
Top speeds run from 5 mph on the Hiboy ES1 to 9 mph on the Joy Haul and Q2 Lite, 9.9 mph on the NAVEE K100 and K100 Pro and 12.4 mph on the K100 Max. The NAVEE models let a parent set a speed limit in the NAVEE app. The ES1 starts with a push: the motor takes over once your child glides to about 2 mph, so there is no sudden lurch from a standstill.
Kids models carry much less than adult ones: 110 lbs on most here and 132 lbs on the K100 Max, rider and backpack included, so do not let an adult test ride one. Check that small hands can reach the brake. The NAVEE models use a rear drum brake, the Joy Haul and Q2 Lite pair an electronic brake with a drum brake, and the ES1 uses a fender brake.
A helmet that fits, on every ride, plus knee and elbow pads and closed shoes; see helmets and protective gear. Kids should ride with an adult watching, on a quiet path, an empty court or a yard, away from streets and driveways. Age and helmet rules for electric scooters vary by state and city, so check yours.
Use the supplied charger, charge on a hard surface while an adult is home, and unplug when full. Makers list charging times from 3 hours on the Hiboy Q2 Lite to 5 to 6 hours on the Hiboy ES1.
Each maker sets its own range, shown on the product page. The youngest starting age here is 4, on the Hiboy ES1 (ages 4 to 10), and the NAVEE K100 Pro and K100 Max are made for ages 6 to 14.
From 5 mph to 12.4 mph on this page, as rated by the makers. Start in the slowest mode and raise the limit as your child’s steering and braking improve.
Yes on several models. The NAVEE K100, K100 Pro and K100 Max have a parent speed limit in the NAVEE app, and the Hiboy Joy Haul and Q2 Lite have three speed modes.
The Hiboy Joy Haul, with a removable seat, and the Hiboy Q2 Lite, with a soft seat and a toy basket. Both are sit-or-stand rides for ages 5 to 8.
