Front vs full suspension electric bike: which one your roads need
A front fork handles most city riding. Full suspension pays off on broken pavement, gravel and trails, at the cost of weight and upkeep. Here is how to choose.

The GT54 is Riding'times' mini motorbike. Here is how fast the GT54 and GT54 Pro go, what the Safety Editions change, how far each rides on a charge and who they fit.
The short answer
The GT54 top speed is 40 mph, and the GT54 Pro is listed at 50 mph, measured without a rider. The GT54 Safety Edition and GT54 Pro Safety Edition are factory-limited to 750 W and 15 mph. Riding’times rates the GT54 family for up to 62 miles per charge, from a 48V 27Ah battery (1,296 Wh) on the GT54 models or a 60V 25Ah battery (1,500 Wh) on the Pro models. All four share a 27.2 in seat, a 4 ft 2 in to 5 ft 9 in rider range, a 220 lb max load and weights of 102.5 to 106.5 lb. Every GT54 is for off-road use only.
The GT54 is a mini and pit size electric dirt bike, with a 14 inch front and 12 inch rear wheel. Riding’times sells it in two power levels, and each comes as a 15 mph Safety Edition too.
| Model | Top speed (mph) | Range (miles) | Motor power (W) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riding’times GT54 Electric Mini Motorbike | 40 | 62 | 2,000 |
| GT54 Pro Electric Mini Motorbike | 50 | 62 | 3,000 |
| Riding’times GT54 Safety Edition Electric Dirt Bike | 15 | 62 | – |
| Riding’times GT54 Pro Safety Edition Electric Dirt Bike | 15 | 62 | – |
Maker figures, checked September 2026. Real range and speed depend on rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding mode.
Read the Pro’s 50 mph with care. Riding’times measured it without a rider, so expect less with someone on board, and less again on climbs or soft ground. The GT54’s 40 mph carries no such note. For the full comparison of the two power levels, see GT54 vs GT54 Pro.
A small bike with a big motor is still sensitive to load. The GT54 family is rated for riders up to 220 lb, and the closer you get to that limit, the more the motor has to work.
For newer riders, the top speed matters less than how the power comes in. The Safety Editions keep the full-size brakes and suspension but cap the speed at 15 mph, which makes them a calmer first bike.
Riding’times gives every GT54 a maximum range of up to 62 miles. The GT54 listing calls 62 miles (100 km) its maximum claim, and its spec list also gives 60 miles. The GT54 Pro and both Safety Editions are listed at up to 62 miles.
Energy per mile is a fair way to compare. Spread over 62 miles, the GT54’s 1,296 Wh works out to about 21 Wh per mile, and the Pro’s 1,500 Wh to about 24 Wh per mile. Both figures assume gentle riding. Full throttle trail riding uses far more, so real range can be a fraction of the maximum.
Plan short at first. Ride close to home for the first few sessions and watch how fast the battery gauge falls. Our guide to electric dirt bike range explains how terrain, rider weight and riding style change the numbers.
Riding’times does not list a charge time for the GT54 family. Use only the supplied charger, charge on a hard surface away from anything that burns, and stay nearby while it charges. Our guide on how to charge an electric dirt bike covers storage and winter care.
If the bike loses power or the battery stops charging, switch it off and follow the Riding’times manual. Battery, controller, brake and wiring repairs belong with a qualified technician, and our warranty page explains what is covered.
The low seat is the GT54’s biggest selling point. At 27.2 in, most teens and many smaller adults can put their feet down at a stop, which builds confidence on a first bike. Riding’times lists the GT54 for teens and youth and the GT54 Pro for adults, and both share the same frame and fit.
Riders taller than 5 ft 9 in or heavier than 220 lb should look at the full-size GT73 instead. Our sibling guide to GT73 top speed and range covers it the same way, and electric dirt bike sizes shows how to check seat height against inseam.
Every GT54 stops with hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, plus an e-brake that cuts motor power. The GT54 and GT54 Safety Edition use an inverted aluminum fork and a rear shock. The GT54 Pro and GT54 Pro Safety Edition use an adjustable hydraulic fork and a rear shock, so you can tune the front end for the rider’s weight.
All four run 60/100-14 front and 60/100-12 rear tires, an LED headlight, a taillight and turn signals. For riders who move up to the Pro’s 50 mph, the adjustable fork is the more useful upgrade.
Every GT54 is for off-road use only. Ride on private land with the owner’s permission, at riding parks and tracks, and on trails open to off-road motorcycles. Lights and turn signals do not make a bike road legal. Our guide to where to ride electric dirt bikes covers the options.
This is general information, not legal advice. Off-road vehicle rules, including age rules, differ by state and can change. Check with your state DMV and local rules before you ride.
At 40 or 50 mph, a mini bike needs full gear: a full face helmet, goggles, gloves, boots and body armor. Our guide to electric dirt bike safety gear lists what to wear.
All four GT54 models currently sit under $1,000, in the $500 to $1,000 band. Prices change with sales, so each product page shows today’s figure.

Riding’times lists 40 mph for the GT54 and 50 mph for the GT54 Pro, measured without a rider. Both Safety Editions are factory-limited to 15 mph. Every GT54 is for off-road use only.
Riding’times rates the GT54 family for up to 62 miles, and the GT54 spec list also gives 60 miles. Real trail range is lower, especially at full throttle, on climbs and in cold weather.
The GT54 and GT54 Safety Edition weigh 106.5 lb. The GT54 Pro and GT54 Pro Safety Edition weigh 102.5 lb.
Yes, within the listed limits: a rider height of 4 ft 2 in to 5 ft 9 in and a 220 lb max load. Riding’times lists the GT54 Pro for adults and the GT54 for teens and youth.
It is built for that job. It keeps the GT54’s battery, brakes and suspension, but the motor is factory-limited to 750 W and 15 mph.
A front fork handles most city riding. Full suspension pays off on broken pavement, gravel and trails, at the cost of weight and upkeep. Here is how to choose.
A 52V battery gives a little more punch than a 48V one at the same current, but range comes from watt hours, the speed cap stays the same and the whole system has to match.
A 750 W motor pulls harder up hills and away from lights than a 500 W motor, but it does not raise the speed limit, and torque often tells you more than watts.
