How fast does a GT73 go? Top speed, range and battery for every Riding’times GT73

Four GT73 bikes share one frame and one range rating. Here is how fast each one goes, how far it rides on a charge, and what changes the numbers you see on the trail.

The short answer

How fast does a GT73 go? Riding’times lists 28 to 37 mph for the GT73 and 37 to 46 mph for the GT73 Pro. The GT73 Safety Edition and GT73 Pro Safety Edition are factory-limited to 750 W and 15 mph. All four carry two removable batteries and share the same rating: 85 miles on the throttle, or 155 miles with pedal assist. The GT73 weighs 116 lb and the GT73 Pro 123 lb, both fit riders from 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 3 in, and every GT73 is for off-road use only.

  • Top speed: 28 to 37 mph for the GT73, 37 to 46 mph for the GT73 Pro, 15 mph for both Safety Editions.
  • Range: 85 miles on the throttle or 155 miles with pedal assist, the same rating for all four bikes.
  • Battery: two removable 48V 18.2Ah packs (1,747 Wh) on the GT73 models, two 60V 18Ah packs (2,160 Wh) on the Pro models.
  • Weight and fit: 116 lb or 123 lb, a 330 lb max load and a listed rider height of 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 3 in.

GT73 top speed, model by model

Riding’times builds the GT73 as a full-size electric dirt bike with 19 inch wheels, two batteries and pedals. It comes in two power levels, and each one also comes as a 15 mph Safety Edition. Here is what Riding’times lists for each.

  • Riding’times GT73: 28 to 37 mph, from a rear geared hub motor rated at 2,400 W peak with 93 lb-ft of torque and a 48V 30A controller.
  • GT73 Pro: 37 to 46 mph, from a rear geared hub motor rated at 3,000 W peak with 249 lb-ft of torque and a 60V 40A Fardriver controller.
  • GT73 Safety Edition: up to 15 mph. The motor is factory-limited to 750 W.
  • GT73 Pro Safety Edition: up to 15 mph, with the same 750 W factory limit.

Maker figures, checked September 2026. Real range and speed depend on rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding mode.

The Pro is 9 mph faster at both ends of its range. The step comes from the move to a 60V system: more voltage, a stronger controller and a motor with a higher peak rating. For a side by side look at everything else that changes, read GT73 vs GT73 Pro.

What changes the speed you actually see

A listed top speed is a best case. On a trail, several things pull it down, and the same is true of any electric dirt bike.

  • Rider weight and cargo. A heavier load means the motor works harder to reach the same speed. Both GT73 models carry up to 330 lb.
  • Battery charge. Voltage drops as a pack empties, so most bikes feel stronger on a full charge than near empty.
  • Terrain. Climbs, sand, mud and loose dirt all slow a bike down. Flat, hard ground is where listed speeds come from.
  • Tires and temperature. Knobby off-road tires grip well but roll with more drag than road tires, and cold weather reduces what a lithium battery can deliver.

Higher speed is not the main reason to buy the Pro. The torque jump from 93 lb-ft to 249 lb-ft is what you feel most on climbs and out of corners. If you ride steep or soft ground, that matters more than the last few miles per hour.

GT73 range: 85 or 155 miles

Riding’times rates every GT73 at 85 miles on the throttle and 155 miles with pedal assist. The Safety Editions keep the same batteries, so they share the same rating.

The two figures depend on how you ride. On the throttle alone, the motor does all the work. With pedal assist, your legs share the load and the battery lasts longer. Riding’times lists pedal assist with a cadence sensor on the GT73, which means the motor helps as the pedals turn.

A quick way to read the range numbers is energy per mile. Spread over the 85 mile throttle rating, the GT73’s 1,747 Wh works out to about 21 Wh per mile, and the GT73 Pro’s 2,160 Wh to about 25 Wh per mile. The Pro carries more energy, yet gets the same rating, because its stronger motor can use it faster.

Plan on less than the rating. Hard trail riding, climbs, soft ground, a heavier rider and cold weather all cut range. Our guide to electric dirt bike range explains how to estimate real trail range, and a safe habit is to plan rides at about half the throttle rating until you know your bike.

Batteries and charge time

  • GT73 and GT73 Safety Edition: two removable 48V 18.2Ah batteries, 1,747 Wh together. Two 54.6V 2A chargers take 9 to 10 hours.
  • GT73 Pro and GT73 Pro Safety Edition: two removable 60V 18Ah batteries, 2,160 Wh together. Two 67.2V 3A chargers take 5 to 6 hours.

Removable batteries make charging easier. You can take the packs indoors to charge instead of running a cord to the bike. Use only the chargers that come with the bike, charge on a hard surface away from anything that burns, and do not leave a charging battery unattended. Our guide on how to charge an electric dirt bike covers storage charge levels and winter care.

If a battery stops holding charge or a charger acts up, power the bike off and follow the Riding’times manual. Send battery, controller, brake and wiring work to a qualified technician, and see our warranty page for covered faults.

Weight, seat height and fit

  • Net weight: 116 lb for the GT73 and GT73 Safety Edition, 123 lb for the GT73 Pro and GT73 Pro Safety Edition.
  • Seat height: 30.3 in on the GT73.
  • Rider height: 5 ft 5 in to 6 ft 3 in on all four.
  • Max load: 330 lb on all four.
  • Age: Riding’times recommends the GT73 for ages 12 and up.

At 116 to 123 lb, a GT73 is lighter than most full-power dirt bikes but too heavy to lift alone. Plan for a ramp or a second person when you load it into a truck bed, and check that any hitch carrier is rated for the bike’s weight. Our sibling guide on how much an electric dirt bike weighs compares it with the rest of our catalog.

Riders shorter than 5 ft 5 in should look at the mini GT54 family. Our sibling guide to GT54 top speed and range covers the smaller bikes the same way.

The 15 mph Safety Editions

Each Safety Edition is a standard GT73 or GT73 Pro with the motor factory-limited to 750 W and 15 mph. It keeps the same two removable batteries, the adjustable aluminum fork and rear shock, the dual hydraulic disc brakes with EABS, the 25 x 3 in off-road tires, LED lights with turn signals and an IPX4 rating.

They suit newer riders, and parents who want a full-size bike with a calmer top speed. A factory limit does not change how your state treats a bike, so check the rules where you plan to ride.

Where you can ride a GT73

Every GT73 is for off-road use only. Ride on private land with the owner’s permission, at riding parks and tracks, and on trails open to off-road motorcycles. Lights, turn signals and pedals help on a trail, but they do not make a bike road legal or turn it into an e-bike. Our guide to where to ride electric dirt bikes lists the options.

This is general information, not legal advice. Rules for off-road vehicles differ by state and can change. Check with your state DMV and local rules before you ride.

Before the first ride, set up a helmet, goggles, gloves and boots. Our guide to electric dirt bike safety gear lists what to wear.

GT73 price bands and how to pay

The GT73 and GT73 Safety Edition sit in the $1,000 to $1,500 band, and the GT73 Pro and GT73 Pro Safety Edition in the $1,500 to $2,000 band. Prices change with sales, so each product page shows the current figure.

See the full line on the Riding’times brand page and the rest of our electric dirt bikes. Every GT73 costs $2,000 or less, so you can use Pay in 4 at 0% APR on orders up to $2,000, or a monthly plan with Affirm, subject to approval. Monthly plans can carry interest. Every order ships free to the lower 48 states.
