Every electric bike on this page folds at the frame, and usually at the stem and pedals too, so it fits in a car trunk, a hallway, under a desk or in the luggage space of a train. Folding e-bikes suit apartment living, mixed commutes that combine riding with transit or driving, and anyone short of storage.

Most folding e-bikes hinge in the middle of the frame, fold the stem down over the front wheel and fold the pedals flat, ending up roughly half their riding length. The product page gives folded dimensions; measure your trunk, hallway or storage spot before buying. A carry handle on the frame and a latch that holds the two halves together make carrying far easier. If you will lift the e-bike often, sort this page by weight and look for a removable battery, which takes several pounds off the carry.
Folding e-bikes usually run 20-inch wheels, which keep the folded package small and make the e-bike nimble, at the cost of a slightly busier ride on rough roads than a full-size wheel. Fat tire versions add comfort and grip. Range depends on battery size; a 500 Wh or larger pack covers most commutes, and a removable battery can be charged at your desk.
Practise the fold a few times at home so it is quick when you need it. Keep the hinges clean and check the latches before each ride. Folded e-bikes are welcome on many transit systems, but rules differ; check your operator’s policy. A folded e-bike is also easier to lock indoors, which beats any lock outside. In a car, lay the folded e-bike on its side on a blanket with the battery removed, and strap it so it cannot slide.
Sort by weight or folded size, then compare range, top speed and rider weight on the product pages.
Most weigh between 50 and 70 lb, with the battery accounting for a good share; removing it lightens the carry. Sort this page by weight to compare.
Many transit systems allow folded e-bikes at any time, but policies vary by system and time of day. Check your operator before relying on it.
Smaller wheels make them nimble rather than unstable; a well-made frame hinge is stiff once latched. Fat tire folding models feel the most planted.
