Lightweight electric scooter picks: the lightest models we stock and what you trade

Every pound counts on stairs, trains and car trunks. Here are the lightest electric scooters we stock, with their weights, and what you trade for carrying less.

Published Oct 9, 20267 min read

The short answer

The lightest adult electric scooters we stock weigh under 30 lb: the Teewing X6 Backpack at 22 lb, the E-TWOW Booster ES at 25.6 lbs, the NANROBOT H1 at about 27.6 lb and the E-TWOW GT models at 29.3 lbs. A lightweight electric scooter suits riders who carry it up stairs, onto trains or into a car trunk. The trade-offs are smaller batteries, smaller wheels and lower rider weight limits, so it fits short, mostly flat trips best.

  • The lightest adult models we stock weigh 22 to 29.3 lb, and a second group with more comfort weighs 31.5 to 36.2 lb.
  • The battery is one of the heaviest parts, so a lighter electric scooter usually goes less far on a charge.
  • Small solid tires save weight and never go flat, but they ride firmer. Shock absorbers help.
  • Maximum loads on the lightest models run 198 to 265 lbs, so heavier riders should check that figure first.

Who needs a lightweight electric scooter

If you lift your electric scooter often, its weight matters more than its top speed. Three situations make it the first spec to check:

  • Stairs. A walk-up apartment or an office without an elevator means carrying it every day. A 25 lb scooter and a 50 lb scooter feel very different by the third floor.
  • Trains and buses. Mixed trips mean lifting it through station stairs and onto a crowded car. Check your transit agency’s rules on folding scooters before you plan around it.
  • Car trunks. If you drive part of the way, a short, flat fold fits more trunks and is easier to lift in and out.

If you ride door to door and park on the ground floor, you do not need the lightest model. A heavier scooter with a bigger battery, air tires and suspension will ride better. Our guide to commuter electric scooters covers that balance for daily trips.

The lightest electric scooters we stock: under 30 lb

These weigh less than many folding bikes and fold small enough for a closet or the space under a desk. All weights are the makers’ figures.

  • Teewing X6 Backpack: 22 lb. It folds into its own backpack, so you carry it on your back instead of by the stem. A 250W motor, a 5Ah battery and 5.5-inch wheels make it a short-hop scooter, with front suspension and a 220 lb maximum load.
  • E-TWOW Booster ES: 25.6 lbs. A 500W motor (700W peak), a 36V 281Wh battery, 8-inch solid tires and front and rear shock absorbers. It folds in three points, including the handlebar and grips, to 38.6 x 13.0 x 5.9 in. E-TWOW lists energy use of 9.9 to 12.4Wh per mile.
  • NANROBOT H1: about 27.6 lb. A 350W motor (630W peak), a 36V 5.2Ah battery, 8.5-inch honeycomb solid tires, a rear disc brake, cruise control, IP55 and a 265 lb maximum load. NANROBOT lists UL 2272.
  • NANROBOT X8: about 28.7 lb. The light pick with air tires: 10-inch pneumatic tires, a removable 36V 10.4Ah battery, a rear disc brake with EBS and three speed modes of 6, 10 and 18 mph for new riders.
  • E-TWOW GT SL and GT Sport: 29.3 lbs. Both use a 500W motor (700W peak), airless tires, front and rear shock absorbers, three brakes and a patented 3-point fold. The GT SL carries a 374Wh battery and the GT Sport a 504Wh battery, so the GT Sport goes further at the same weight. The GT Sport Limited Edition adds turn signals in the handlebar.

A little heavier, a lot more comfort: 30 to 37 lb

Add a few pounds and you get bigger air tires, a removable battery or more suspension. For many riders this group is the better balance between carrying and riding.

  • Hiboy S2R Plus: 31.5 lbs. 9-inch air tires and a key-release battery you can take indoors to charge. A spare battery, sold separately, stretches the range to 44 miles.
  • INMOTION Air: 34.5 lbs. A 270Wh battery, 10-inch tires, three riding modes, a 264 lbs maximum load and an IP55 body rating, per INMOTION.
  • Hiboy S2 Nova: 34.5 lbs. A solid front tire, an air-filled rear tire and rear suspension, with a 36V 9Ah battery.
  • Segway E2 Plus II: 36.2 lbs. Front spring suspension and 8.1-inch flat-free tires. Its 198 lbs maximum load suits lighter riders.

What you give up for a lighter electric scooter

The battery is one of the heaviest parts of any electric scooter, so less weight usually means less range. Compare two models from the same maker: the E-TWOW Booster ES weighs 3.7 lbs less than the GT Sport, but its battery holds 281Wh against 504Wh, and its rated range drops from 25 miles to 19.

  • Range. Batteries on the models above hold from about 190Wh to 504Wh. Ratings are measured gently, so read how far an electric scooter really goes before you count on the full figure.
  • Wheels and tires. Most of the under 30 lb models roll on solid or airless tires of 8.5 inches or less. They never go flat but pass more road buzz to your feet, which is why the E-TWOW models add front and rear shock absorbers. Our guide to solid vs air-filled tires explains the difference.
  • Rider weight. Maximum loads run 198 to 265 lbs on the models above. Many heavier commuters list 286 to 330 lbs.
  • Hills. Single motors rated 250 to 500W handle gentle grades. E-TWOW lists a 20% hill climb for the Booster ES and 25% for the GT models, and NANROBOT lists up to 15° for the H1 and X8.
  • Brakes. Light models usually pair an electronic or regenerative brake with one mechanical brake, such as a rear drum, disc or step-on brake, rather than discs at both ends.

Folding, carrying and storing

Weight is only half of portability. How the scooter folds and where you hold it matter just as much.

  • Folded size. The E-TWOW Booster ES folds to 38.6 x 13.0 x 5.9 in and the GT models to 41.7 x 13.0 x 5.8 in, flat enough to slide behind a car seat. The INMOTION Air folds to 44.4 x 17.5 x 20.5 in, a bulkier shape.
  • Where you hold it. A carry handle, or a backpack like the X6’s, is easier than gripping the stem.
  • Fold speed and latch. A quick fold helps when you are boarding a bus. Check the latch for play every couple of weeks.
  • Removable battery. The Hiboy S2R Plus and NANROBOT X8 batteries come out, so you can charge indoors and leave the scooter in a hallway or bike room.

How to choose a lightweight electric scooter

  • Short hops plus a train or bus: the Teewing X6 Backpack or the E-TWOW Booster ES.
  • A walk-up and a longer commute: the E-TWOW GT Sport, which carries a 504Wh battery at under 30 lb.
  • Air tires at a light weight: the NANROBOT X8 or the Hiboy S2R Plus.
  • Riders up to 265 lb who still carry it: the NANROBOT H1 or NANROBOT X8.

Questions riders ask

What is the lightest electric scooter for adults you sell?

The Teewing X6 Backpack, at 22 lb. It folds into its own backpack. With a bigger battery, the E-TWOW Booster ES weighs 25.6 lbs, and the E-TWOW GT Sport weighs 29.3 lbs with a 504Wh battery.

Is a lightweight electric scooter OK for heavier riders?

Check the maximum load, which covers you and your bag. The lightest models we stock list 198 to 265 lbs. If you are close to the limit, a heavier commuter with a 286 to 330 lbs rating gives you more margin.

Do light electric scooters go up hills?

Gentle ones, yes. Single motors rated 250 to 500W slow down on steep grades. E-TWOW lists a 20% hill climb for the Booster ES and 25% for the GT models.

Can I take a folding electric scooter on the train?

Rules differ by city and transit agency, so check your agency’s policy before you ride. Where folded scooters are allowed, a light weight and a short, flat fold make the trip much easier.

Why do so many light electric scooters use solid tires?

Solid tires save weight and never go flat. The trade-off is a firmer ride, which is why models like the E-TWOW Booster ES and GT add front and rear shock absorbers.
