A bike-style helmet is light and well ventilated and suits riding up to typical e-bike and commuter electric scooter speeds. A full-face helmet adds a chin bar and is the sensible choice on electric scooters rated for 40 mph and up. A motocross helmet has a longer chin bar and a peak, is worn with goggles, and is designed for off-road riding on electric dirt bikes. A modular (flip-up) helmet lets you raise the chin bar at a stop.
CPSC 1203 is the US standard for bicycle helmets and is a sound baseline for e-bikes and slower electric scooters. DOT FMVSS 218 is the US motorcycle helmet standard and is the one to look for at higher speeds and on electric dirt bikes; ECE 22.06 is its European counterpart. We only state a certification when the maker prints it on the helmet or its packaging.
Measure your head circumference with a soft tape and compare it with the maker’s chart on the product page. Between sizes, choose the smaller one if the helmet has adjustable padding. The chin strap should be snug enough that you can fit only a finger or two beneath it.
A protective gear set with knee, elbow and wrist guards is worth having for new riders and for anyone learning a faster electric scooter. Gloves improve grip and protect your palms in a fall, which is the most common injury on any two-wheeler. Sets are sized by age and limb measurement; check the chart on the product page.
A full-face helmet is strongly recommended on electric scooters rated for 40 mph and up, because a bike-style helmet leaves the chin and jaw unprotected.
For commuter speeds, CPSC is the usual bicycle standard. For performance electric scooters and electric dirt bikes, look for DOT FMVSS 218 or ECE 22.06. We show only what each maker prints.
Wrap a soft tape around your head about an inch above the eyebrows and ears, note the circumference in centimetres or inches, and match it to the size chart on the product page.
